There will be. I'm also working on another animation featuring a Danube-class Runabouts (the warp shuttles they had in Deep Space Nine, if you know them). And thank you!

This is a WIP of an animation I'm working on. I don't usually show WIPs, but in this case it's only about 50% done (based on what I've planned, so I figure, why not).

It's rendered in Lightwave, animated in VirtualDub and then composed using Adobe Premiere.

You can find a workflow explanation here:

Or watch on YouTube:

Background: Starfield & nebula are my work, the 'sun' is a distant lightsource with lens flare setup.

Meshes: Galaxy-class by Prologic9 with texture changes/enhancements by me.

Composition: Scene, texture & lighting setup in Lightwave, including all FX, animated using VirtualDub and composed in Adobe Premiere.

Star Trek , & Paramount Pictures, All Rights Reserved. Further credits shown in the movie.

Original resolution: 800x375, 3x AA.

Comments and critique welcome.

Thank you to *TreeClimber for her great WIP input and comments!

Thanks! Took long enough as well. I just have the time to finish/add more sequences to it.

Extremely talented animation! Looks photo-realistic and as if an actual model ship was filmed.

Captured as if from the actual TV or movie...even the speed and shadings on the Enterprise-D look as if lifted from film. Amazing detail and layout...just great to watch!

Thank you very much. It took forever to get all the texture maps configured the way I wanted it to look. Learned a lot of new stuff while making this - which was the fun part.

And I'm glad you think it's close to the TV show. That was my plan! ;)

@01:47I think you've done a great job of capturing the mood from the series, and chosen some really great background music for the piece. And the model for the 1701-D looks awesome :D

@01:47Thanks for the kind words. Music took a while, I was going to use some themes from the movies/shows, but since music is a major 'copyright hangup' for a lot of people these days, I figure I keep that as 'legal as possible' so to speak.

I can't take credits for the model itself, I'm afraid, just the texture work.

@01:47I thought the music you chose suited it better anyway. Thanks for explaining, you still did a great job on the texturing :)

Very nice, though the pixelation of the preview is a bit distracting.

The FOV and motion of the stars seem a little awkward...

I like the video overall.

Thank you. The pixelation is in part due to the upload, however, the original resolution is not HD. My system would render days on a sequence if I had it rendering in HD resolution.

As far as the FOV goes, I tried sticking as close to the angles you would see in the Star Trek TNG TV show, even if, of course, back then they were using physical models and not CGI.

I'm working on a few year old laptop. It's a Dual Core at 2.2 GHz with 3 GB RAM. I'm planning on something new eventually, but so far it serves its purpose...

ah, ok.

Yea, I run a Quad Core Q6600... at 2.4GHz, and I have 4GB of DDR2-800 RAM...

I have 8GB of DDR3, but no mobo to use it in, lol.
