It has been 25 years to date that the crew of the Space Shuttle "Challenger" perished in an accident following take off on 28 January 1986 from its launch pad at Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
I remember watching this tragedy on TV at the time. I was eight years old and then I might not have been able to fully grasp the severity and consequences involved.
This is my tribute to that mission and the memory of astronauts Michael J. Smith, Dick Scobee, Ronald McNair, Ellison Onizuka, Gregory Jarvis, Judith Resnik as well as teacher Christa McAuliffe who did not survive the accident.
As then President Ronald Reagon put so well, when walking the path of pioneers, when walking the first steps into an unknown future of humanity, pushing the boundaries and expanding the Final Frontier, sacrifices sadly happen along the way. However, it is vital that these people and their contribution along the way are never forgotten.
