:bulletred::bulletred::bulletred: This image looks OK on my screen, but the color intensity, brightness and overall balance varies somewhat on the screens I have viewed this image on. Please keep that in mind when commenting! :bulletred::bulletred::bulletred:

So, despite being two days late for May 4th, and one day for Revenge of the Fifth, a belated May the Fourth be with you, everyone. I just ran out of time after a ridiculously (and unplanned so) busy week-end.
Based on a scene from Star Wars - Episode IV: A New Hope; plus some artistic freedom.

Darth Vader with a wing of TIE Fighters is pursuing a Rebel Alliance X-Wing Fighter in an attempt to defend the Death Star against imminent destruction. The title is a reference to Vader's words uttered when his targeting computer aquires Luke Skywalker's X-Wing.

COMPOSITION: Entire scene was composed and rendered in Lightwave with perhaps 15% postwork in Photoshop. Planet and its texture, including composition, lighting rig, and effects are my work. Lasers as well as the explosion (minus some minor digital painting touch ups) are also rendered using hypervoxels.

MESHES: X-Wing Fighter from Turbosquid, Vader's TIE Fighter by Jeremy Kincaid, TIE Fighter by James Basset with LWO conversion by Ian Bremner, Death Star Trench by Rob Meyers, planet & texture, texture modifications, composition & FX by me.

My artworks are not endorsed, sponsored, or affiliated with Disney, Lucasfilm Ltd. or the "Star Wars" franchise. The Star Wars trademarks, logos, and related names are owned by Disney & Lucasfilm Ltd., and are used under "fair use" guidelines.

Comments and critique welcome.

This is what irritates me when it comes to Star Wars fans. So many of them bash the Imperial Stormtroopers as poor soldiers who can't shoot straight, and apply that logic to their pilots as well. However, if you actually pay attention during the space battle, you see the Imperial fighters completely decimate the Rebel ships; Luke is one of two or three survivors from the dozens that took off from Yavin IV. And that's despite flying "inferior" craft with no deflector shields or armor plating. =/

Bah, sorry for the rant. And excellent picture, too. =)

Thirty fighter's against a space station is not much of a fighting force. One would assume the laser towers would have got a few and the fighters took care of the rest. As you recall 3 ships survived the attack. Luke, wedge and an unnamed Y wing pilot. Yes the Imperials nearly won this battle,...the rebels got lucky...extremely lucky.

Whoever that Y-Wing pilot was, he was the luckiest unnamed side character in the entire Star Wars universe. Did you see how many of them J.J. Abrams killed in Episode VII? =(

I'm certain at least some Y-Wing veterans from the Galactic Civil War were living on that planet...*sniff* =,(

You mean it isn't moving?  o.O

Very cool.  That's what I call a forced perspective.

You did a great job capturing the precise moment when Darth really thought he had triumphed, but IMO (which is all it is), there should have been bolts screaming in at the rear of the Imperial escort about to implode it from a very, familiar hunk of junk.    It was Han's intervention (may the 4th be with you) that broke Vader's concentration, caused the collision and allowed Luke to make his shot.    Without that, it would look like the Imperials are about to win.

Otherwise the profiles and sense of speed by the blurring are great, thanks for a great image frozen in time!

Thank you, and for your comments! I played with a number of ideas, but after choosing this particlar angle, having Han Solo show up didn't make sense. The Falcon came in from a very high angle, with the sun light in the back, and I find that if you clutter an image too much, it quickly loses its effectiveness. It certainly would have made sense, but then this could the moment when Vader hits R2D2 (even if he explosion would be a bit much for that), or one of the other X-Wings before (despite the quote used in the title)... who knows.

I may just have to do another angle at some stage... ;)
