Having an opinion is a good thing, if you do keep that open mind and allow for others to make their point without judging them right from the start.
I got particularly annoyed by some of the posts on one of the recent DDs (it was a Hitler puppet). Fair enough, it's a dark and difficult part of human history in general, but at the same time, if some person (clearly way too young to have experienced that time) states that they, "have Jewish family members and I'm entitled to be offended", that does it.
Entitlement comes from where?! Anyone can take offense at anything, even at being perceived as someone else based on your nationality alone, just because over half a century ago some political decisions were made. It's the same on so many levels. Nowadays most people see anyone from Arabian countries as terrorists, only because some mercenary factions (who received their original armaments by the U.S. government a couple of decades ago - talking about the Taliban here) decided to change their allegiance!
I just think that history, as everything else, needs to be taken with a little humor. Learn from it, make sure it's not forgotten, but don't hold age old grudges and poison the generations to come, just because you feel you have to. I hate that when people keep hate going, purely because they belong to a certain 'ethnic group' (another one of those un-words).
But who said humanity wasn't bigotted, stupid and selfish. Certainly wasn't me.... </rant>
Well, I can't take credit for the words. While it's close to my kind of cynicism, I saw that phrase a short while ago somewhere (probably on one of those 'memes' that are everywhere these days).
Thanks! Was just getting annoyed at people that can't concede once in a while that something is actually funny, or a good idea, even if it's a touchy subject.
