Colonization Complete

Description

Having completed colonization efforts on a class M planet, a fleet of Starfleet vessels is leaving the system, to return to the nearest starbase.

Not any particular reason why I chose these ships, just that they're some of my more favorite classes. And well, you do need an escort like a Defiant class in any case.

If anyone's wondering; the registry number on the Galaxy class belongs to the U.S.S. Venture which made appearances in a few of DS9's Dominion battle episodes, but as far as I know is still in service. So, why not?

COMPOSITION: Starfield was rendered, the remaining background elements were composited/digitally painted from scratch in Photoshop by me. The setup of the ships with lighting rig and subsequent render was done in Lightwave. I've also retextured Prologic9's Galaxy class in the process for more details. The remaining post work was done in PS.

MESHES: Galaxy class by Prologic9 (retextured my me), Defiant class by Skye Dodds, Danube class Runabouts by Thomas Slanitz & Raven class by Nick Bacon (LW conversion by Infinityloop).

What can I say about this that hasn't already been said? This is a beautiful piece.

You clearly had a vision here, and, in my opinion, I think you pulled it into reality perfectly, or as close to perfectly as humanly possible.

The composition is flawless. Whether that was the intention or not, the Runabouts, Defiant, and moon perfectly frame the Galaxy. Your lighting is spot on. I can't tell you how nice it is to see realistic lighting in a Trek piece. The back-lighting on the Galaxy, combined with the subtle glow form her nacelles, really spotlight how elegant, and, one could say, beautiful, the class is. The colors meld together, with just enough contrast to bring vibrancy to an otherwise cold scene.

The choice to go with a matte painting approach was definitely the right one. The planets are rendered with an astounding amount of detail, and are perfectly lit, something none of the series ever seemed to do right. The starfield is astounding.

My one nit to pick here is the originality; there are just so many piece like, or similar to, this. But it's a minor nitpick in comparison to the sheer amount of quality, effort, and passion that seem to have been packed like sardines into its pixels.
